Adoption Policies & Procedures:
- The first step to adopting one of our rats is to fill out our adoption application linked at the bottom of this page. Please contact me via Facebook, email ([email protected]), or text message (508)330-0417 TEXT ONLY
- I do not maintain a waitlist at this time and all adoptions are at a first come, first serve basis. If you are a breeder feel free to contact me and I will work with you to have first pick of adoptable rats.
-A 50% non-refundable deposit is due before a rat can be placed on hold. Unfortunately a lot of adopters have placed rats on hold with me and then not shown up for pick up weeks later. This is a new policy beginning 6/10/19. The deposit will be applied to the total cost of the rat. Cash or Paypal can be accepted for deposits.
-An adoption/sales contract will be signed by the adopter and myself. This form will outline the expectations agreed upon by myself (breeder) and you (adopter).
-All adopters must be over the age of 18 or their parent/guardian must contact me to give consent and acknowledge responsibility for care of the rat(s). Parents are considered the adopter on behalf of a minor and must be the one to communicate with me. An adult is also required when picking up a rat.
-Lone rats are not okay. I will not adopt out a single rat to you unless you have other same sex appropriate cage mates for them. I will hold back babies if I have room so you can get a companion from a younger litter. If you are getting a rat from another breeder I will contact them to make sure you will be getting rats from each of us around the same time.
-If you are unable to keep a rat that you adopt from me you are obligated to offer me first option of refusal before rehoming. If I am unable to take the rat back I will help you find a suitable replacement home.
-All rats adopted out will be in good health, of sound temperament, and over 6 weeks of age at the time that they leave our rattery.
-We do have a 7 day health guarantee and will give a refund/replace the rat in the event of illness. If the health issue proves to be the fault of the adopter the health guarantee is void. If an issue comes up outside of those 7 days we will do our best to help you resolve the issue. This also covers a doe giving birth within 22 days of adoption.
-If behavior issues arise at any point (rat aggression, human aggression) we will work with you by either taking the rat back or helping you to resolve unwanted behaviors. It is never acceptable for a rat to bite you or attack a cagemate beyond normal dominance behavior/play fighting.
-If a genetic health issue arises at any point in the rat's lifetime we will work with you to replace it.
If we adopt out a rat on a Pet Only contract you do not have permission to breed them. If you're interested in a breeding rat your contract will state that you do have breeding rights. Breeding rights are NOT transferable to anyone but the original adopter without my permission.
Lastly, I appreciate any updates on my rats and would love as many update photos as you'd like to send me!
